Robert F. Donohue, age 88, of Wilmington, DE passed away on Friday January 25, 2019. Born in Ottumwa, IA, he was the son of the late Zilpha (Elder) and Bernard Donohue. Bob served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He went on to work in sales at Stauffer Chemical and later, as a consultant to Anheuser-Busch. Bob spent time volunteering at a ranch in Texas where he was nicknamed “Tractor Bob”. The ranch used therapeutic horseback riding as a rehabilitation method and he continued this volunteer work after he moved to Delaware. In addition to his parents, Bob was also predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jim Shannon.
Bob is survived by his wife, Joan Donohue; his daughters, Barbara “Barb” Ward (Joe) of Middletown, DE, Susan Elliott and Cindy Sosnowik (Joe), both of Wilmington, DE; his step-children, Michael T. Pheney (Karey) of St. Louis, MO and Shawn Pheney (Elizabeth) of Charleston, SC; his 13 grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “Granbob”; his 15 great grandchildren; his nieces, Michelle Hamel, Nancee Berger, and Kathy Deneault; and his faithful canine friend, Buster.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11 A.M. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 901 E. Newport Gap Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804. Burial will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
