Eda Saimre, 86, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed on December 12, 2018.
Eda was born to Karl Saimre and Aino (Kiipsaar), on January 23, 1932 in Estonia. In 1944, she and her family became World War II refugees, spending 8 years in West Germany before coming to the United States in 1952. Never married, Eda loved the city of Philadelphia, talking 76er basketball, and spending her summer vacations along the pre-casino Atlantic City boardwalk. Later, she liked taking day trips to Atlantic City or Delaware Park to try her luck at the slots. Eda never forgot a birthday or holiday, as loved ones would always receive a birthday card or holiday card. Eda had a famous sweet tooth and if you are what you eat, it showed with Eda’s sweet personality.
She leaves her behind her nephew, Karl Saimre and family, Maribel Saimre, Jackson and Nicholas Lauber; her niece, Monika Saimre and family, Richard Hill, Matthew Sawyers and Reagan Hill; and cousins, Toivo Ratsep, Ilma Pagi, and Imbu Pagi; all integral parts of her life. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Juri and Tonu Saimre.
The family would like to thank the friends and staff of 1401 and all those that helped Eda from time to time.
A grave side ceremony will be scheduled in the spring for family and friends.
