FAMILY-OWNED AND OPERATED SINCE 1912

Carole J. Huxtable

Carole J. Huxtable, age 86, of New Castle, DE passed away on August 6, 2018. Born in Columbus, OH, she was the daughter of the late Raymond George and Louella Francis (Freeman) Trapp. She worked at a children’s hospital in Columbus, OH, was an administrative assistant for the Delaware House of Representatives, administrative assistant for ICI Stuart, and finally retired from Astra Zeneca.

Along with her parents, Carole was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Richard Huxtable, Jr. in 1979. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Aman (Chris) of Avondale, PA; son, Barton Huxtable (Jacki) of Gambrills, MD; grandchildren, Madi, Zachary, Judy, Lisa, and Greg; sister, Joann Iles of Grove City, OH; and brother, Tom Trapp (Nancy) of Columbus, OH.

Carole enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She was a longtime member of the Astra Zeneca choir, and loved going out for meals with her friends and her “Ladies’ Lunch Group”! She collected Longaberger baskets, Hallmark Christmas ornaments, and Snowbabies figurines; the thrill of the hunt for discount prices giving her the most excitement.  She even participated in hunting for Pokemons with friends, even though she didn’t understand the point of searching for pretend creatures!

Throughout her life, she jumped at any chance to travel, having been to all 50 states, and also Nova Scotia and the Panama Canal.  Some notable trips were to Hawaii with her son Bart, Alaska with her sister Joann, and various road trips with her daughter Cindy and family.  Almost yearly, she visited Tom and Nancy, who made sure to take her to her favorite restaurants and shops.

Hers was a life well lived, and her memory continues to brighten the lives of her family and friends.  Per Carole’s wishes, her funeral will be private.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Ashley Addiction Treatment, 800 Tydings Lane, Havre De Grace, MD 21078.

Dear Cindy, My heart goes out to you and your family during this difficult time. I can't remember ever laughing while reading an obituary, you are keeping her humor alive! Take care of each other and as time passes the pain will too, but the memories will last a lifetime.

Cindy and Bart, we have never met but I worked with you Mom for years and Dick and I are a part of the "lunch group". Your Mom always had a kind word for all and we will miss her bright smile. Dick and Carole shared Pt together a few years ago and she brightened his hour with her encouragement. I vividly remember two years ago when I had been very sick and had lost a lot of weight, feeling very down. I went to lunch wearing a white dress that I hadn't worn in quite a while because it was one that fit me. Carole looked up as I approached the table and said "Barb, you look like an angel". It brightened my whole day because she made me feel so good. That's what I will always remember about your Mom. God bless both of you - it's hard to lose your Mom - as a pastor once told me when I lost my Mom - "you've never known life without her". We will keep you in our prayers.

Dear Cindy & Bart, I extend to you and to your families my deepest sympathy. I am grateful for the dear and longtime friendship Carole and my mom, Evelyn, shared. Our moms enjoyed many shopping adventures together, looking for those bargain finds! Carole acted as one of my mom’s angels during her last few months of life in 2016. I will carry with me always a great fondness for your sweet mom.
